Challenge Refresher Course Description:
The challenge course will consist of 8-9, eight hour class sessions (which will run once a week). The EMT challenge refresher program uses both written and practical examinations to uncover areas of weakness in didactic knowledge and practical skill proficiency. Refresher students will only be required to attend the sessions that are mandatory and the sessions related to the topics that student's demonstrated weakness in.
For example, if a student did not do well in a certain section of one of the written examinations and they were unsuccessful at a certain skill station the student will be required to attend the lecture and practical skills session, which will be stated on their learning contract and class schedule.
The EMT refresher program course is designed to review skills and didactic information to prepare each student for the New York State written and practical exams.
New Revamped Format:
The course will now consist of 3 full practice skill days (In Person) and 3 full review days (Zoom or In Person).
Students may still opt out of sessions if they pass the Challenge Exam Requirements.
Review topics will include: Well Being for the EMT-B, Medical-Legal Issues, Airway Management, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Patient Assessment, Medical Emergencies, Trauma, Infants and Children, OBGYN and Operations.
Challenge Refresher Students must pass with a 80% or higher on each written exam to be eligible to waive their attendance. Students that pass practical testing week 2 may waive attendance for skill days. Opt in/out Form Required.
